About the workshop

This workshop is aimed to foster the skills and competencies in the application of research methods that students and academicians are expected to acquire. The training program will raise the general level of skills and knowledge amongst faculty and research scholars of social science and humanities by ensuring that they acquire, and can apply, basic and advanced quantitative and qualitative research skills that are responsive to the needs of social science subject areas and disciplines.

The highlight of this workshop is the sound hands-on training on SPSS, an international software package for statistical analysis. Three days of the workshop are dedicated to the theory and practice sessions on SPSS.

Course content and topics:

·         Methodological issues in scientific research

·         Online Information sources and services for Research

·         Statistical applications for research

·         Methods of data collection, measurement and scaling techniques

·         Bibliographic standards – APA, MLA, Harvard styles

·         Online citation tools

·         Scholarly communication (Publishing a research paper)

·         SPSS theory

·         SPSS Practice

Target Group
Faculty members from Faculty of Social Sciences, Journalism, Commerce and Management
Registered Ph.D Scholars.
Interested persons involved in academic/ social research / working in NGOs.

Intake

Number of participants is limited to 30 on first come first serve basis.

Resource persons

The classes and practical sessions will be guided by eminent resource persons
in the field of social science research.

Duration of the Training
The training program is scheduled for six days from 24 to 29 March, 2014.
