About the Conference

The library plays a vital role in promoting teaching, learning and research particularly to the academic communities. The library resources are made available in a variety of formats and media. Preferences are shifted from print media to digital media particularly among the digital generation. The information processing methods, digital interfaces to various resources, and delivery channels are getting changed day by day by the influence of technologies. Library provides access to its resources and also available anywhere in the world through a single interface/window to their users any time. This is possible only by integration of various technologies, dissemination channels and media.

This National Conference provides a platform to all the stakeholders to discuss and find out various affordable, open source and innovative technologies to connect the right users to the right resources using the right technologies to enhance the utilization of library resources.



Objectives of the Conference

1. To connect the library users through innovative technologies to increase the library resources

2. To enhance the library resource utilizations using various technologies

3. To find out various affordable and open source technologies to connect the library users and its resources

4. To use AI technologies and tools to answer to the user's queries and also provide the correct resources, predictive reports and data analytics

5. To explore the possibilities of new technologies such as AI, AR, Robots, etc to deliver the Library Resources to the users

6. To conduct research to study the resource utilizations by the users using various technologies and research tools

7. Marketing Library products and services to reach the users



Sub-Themes

1. Library Software Technologies - How effectively Library software can be designed for the new digital communities with new digital interface using various innovative technologies to connect the right users to the right resources using the right technologies -  To deliver the service to remote user’s desktops, tablets, mobiles, e-mail and SMS either from the library or cloud - Keep track of what resources the users search, access and borrow - Designing innovative Library services using new technologies to provide Auto-alert services - SDI and CAS  to enhance the usage of library resources

2. Connecting users through Mobile Technologies - To access the entire library resource and avail the service offered by the library through a mobile app and also connect the library resources, staff to the users

3. Connecting users through AI Technologies- Chat-GPT, Generative AI, Chatbot- and other AI tools - Tracking Library users visits - When users borrows resources - Peak and Non-peak hours - What they borrow, etc

4. Search Engine Technologies – SEO - How to retrieve the required resources using the right search engine

5. Websites - Designing dynamic and interactive websites to connect the users and open-source courses and resources and answers user queries using chatbots and also open-source courses and resources

6. API (Application Programming Interface) Technologies- How to use & integrate API and other related technologies to retrieve remote resources from open and other resources from various publishers’ portals - How to connect databases, Open-source tools and HW devices using API for library applications

7. RFID Technologies - Implementation of RFID technologies - Staff station- Self-Checking Kiosk- Drop box - Smart Card - Biometrics and other devices to help the library users to borrow library resources

8. Innovative Technologies to connect the users and resources such as: AR (Augmented Reality) - Robotics -  Drones - GPS -  IoT  - Blockchain - Cloud  - QR Codes, Voice integration,  Digital Lending, etc

9. Conducting research studies:  to measure the utilization of Library Resources - Usage of Library facilities - What users want and expect from Library - Library visits - AI based research studies for predictive analysis - Data Analytics, etc

10. Digital User Interfaces for easy access and navigation to various print and digital resources for the users

11. Designing new Marketing strategies and techniques to market the Library products and services using new technologies to maximize the library resource utilization:  Orientation programmes - Information Literacy Programmes - Social Medias- Facebook- Twitter- Instagram, etc - Virtual Tour - Digital Interface


Submission of Papers

Authors are requested to submit the full papers on the main and sub themes of the conference. The full paper should not exceed 8 pages of A4 size paper. The abstract should be 250-300 words with minimum of 5 keywords. Authors are requested to submit on A4 size alignment (Times Roman 12 points. 1.5 line spacing) in MS-Word. Charts, graphs, photographs, if any, should be inserted at the proper place in the paper.

Central Library, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur is going to organise an International Short Term Course on “Open Source Software for Library Management (OSSLM 2020)” dated 11-16 May 2020. The hands-on training program will cover detailed insights into three most widely used Open Source Software i.e. Koha,  DSpace  and Vufind.
 The following broad topics will be covered:
  1. Library Automation using Koha [advance level]
  2. Institutional Digital Repository and services using Dspace [advanced level]
  3. Library resource portal using VuFind.
Target Participants
Interested academicians, working professionals and research scholars in the field of Library and Information Science may attend this advanced hands-on training programme which will be very effective to run modern library. It may also be noted that IT Professionals working in Library are also suitable to attend the courses.
 Registration Fees:
Registration fee for the participants are: Rs. 8000/- (Individual), Rs. 9000/- ( Sponsored), $250 (SAARC countries), $300 (other countries). The fee is inclusive of GST value (18%). The registration fee includes kit, course materials (Software CD), Lunch and Dinner during the training program.
Limited Seat Availability:
