·         To create awareness among library professionals about open source content management system & its application in library.

·         To make the library professionals technically sound to develop the online application with the help of content management system.

·         To enable the library professionals to face the technological challenges in order to manage the content

SCOPE OF THE WORKSHOP

·         This workshop will cover the Tutorial, Hands-on Session & Demonstration of different topics

·         Open source System & Why Open Source System

·         Step-by-Step PDF manual on “How to design website”

·         Customization of Joomla Website and its application in library.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This workshop is aimed for the audience from Library and Information Science Profession.

REGISTRATION FEE

Rs.600/- for Working Professionals and Rs.400/- for fulltime research scholars and students. The participants will be provided with a working lunch, refreshments and essential course materials.

Participants are requested to send their filled in registration form (Photocopy is also acceptable) to the Organizing Secretary or register through online(For Online Registration Visit www.vit.ac.in)on or before    31^st October 2015 along with the Demand Draft drawn in favor of            “VIT University, Chennai” payable at Chennai. Seats are limited to 150 only.

 

Accommodation will be provided on requisition.

Accommodation Charges – Rs.150/- per day.

Registration fee does not include accommodation charges.

ABOUT THE LIBRARY

Central Library at Chennai campus is built to International Standards and spread over Ground + Three floors, with a built-up area of 25,000 sq.ft.  It is centrally air-conditioned well protected with fire alarm, CCTV and RFID security system.  Specialized collections of books, journals and other study materials are available in the disciplines of Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Humanities, Management, Social Sciences and Law.

·    The Library functions on all 365 days

·    The Library has 50,000+ Books.

·    The Periodical Section has 126 specialized print journals, of which 66 are International.

·    The Digital Library has 92 computers, subscribed to more than 27 Databases. 

·    The Media Resource Centre has 3746 number of CD’s and DVD’s.

·    LIBSYS Software is used for Library Automation.

·    Touch Screen KIOSK for Library Information display

·    Surface Table for Discussion

·    There is a video-conferencing facility for e-learning

·    Institutional Repository (archives of question papers) services are extended to users.
