Qualifications:
Qualifications  are  as  prescribed  by  the  UGC  in  the UGC  Regulations  on  Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and Other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and Measures for the Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education, 2010, which are as follows:
  1. Good Academic record  as  defined  by  the  concerned University  with  at  least  55%  marks  (or  an equivalent  grade  in  a  point  scale  wherever  grading system  is  followed)  at  Masters  Degree  level  in  the relevant subject from an Indian University or an equivalent Degree from an accredited foreign University.
  2. Besides fulfilling   the   above   qualifications,  the candidate   must  have   cleared   the   National Eligibility  Test  (NET)  conducted  by  the  UGC, CSIR  or  similar  test  accredited  by  the  UGC  like SLET/SET.
  3. Not with standing anything contained in sub-clause (i) and (ii), candidates who are, or have been awarded a Ph.D Degree in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D Degree)  Regulations,  2009,  shall  be  exempted  from  the  requirement  of    minimum  eligibility conditions  of  NET/SLET/SET  for  recruitment  and  appointment  of  Assistant  Professor  or  equivalent positions in Universities/Colleges/Institutions.
  4. NET/SLET/SET shall also not be required for such Masters Programme in disciplines for which NET/SLET/SET is not conducted.
  5. In order for a Ph.D Degree to be considered either for relaxation of the requirement of NET in the selection process, any one of the following applicable certificate has to be produced by the applicant:
  • In the  case  of  D  holder,  who  had  registered  on or after 11thJuly  2009,  a  Certificate  from  the University  concerned  to  the  effect  that  the  Ph.D  has  been  awarded  in  accordance  with  the provisions  of  UGC  (Minimum  Standards  and  Procedure for  awards  of  M.Phil/Ph.D  Degree)Regulations, 2009.
  • In the case of Ph.D holder, who had registered prior to 11thJuly 2009, a Certificate from the Vice-Chancellor/Pro-Vice-Chancellor/Dean(Academic Affairs)/Dean(University  Instructions)  of  the University  which  issued  the  Degree,  to  the  effect  that  the  D  has  been  awarded  fulfilling  the following condition:
  • D Degree of the candidate awarded in regular mode only.
  • Evaluation of the Ph.D. thesis by at least two external examiners.
  • Open Ph.D. viva voice of the candidate had been conducted
  • Candidate has published two research papers from his/her Ph.D. work out of which at least one must be in a refereed journal
  • Candidate has  made  at  least  two  presentations  in conferences/seminars,  based  on  his/her Ph.D work.
[as contemplated in the UGC (Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and other Academic Staff  in  Universities and  Colleges  and Measures for the  Maintenance of  Standards  in  Higher  Education)(4th Amendment), Regulations, 2016].
  1. A relaxation of 5% marks may be provided at the Graduate and Masters level for the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled  Tribe/Differently -abled  (Physically and  visually  differently -abled)/Other    Backward Classes  (OBC)  (Non  Creamy  Layer)  categories  for  the purpose  of  eligibility  and  for  assessing  good academic record during direct recruitment to teaching positions.  The eligibility marks of 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories  mentioned  above  are  permissible,  based  on  only  the  qualifying  marks  without  including  any grace mark procedures.
  2. A relaxation of 5% may be provided, from 55% to50% of the marks to the Ph.D Degree holders, who have obtained their Masters Degree prior to 19September, 1991.
Age: Not more than 40 years as on 01.01.2017.
Usual  relaxation  in  the  upper  age  limit  shall  be  allowed  in  respect  of  candidates  belonging  to SC/ST and Other Backward Classes. Relaxation in the upper age limit will also be allowed in the case of persons already in the regular teaching service in the Departments/ affiliated colleges under the University of Kerala and UGC qualified technical staff (non-teaching) in the University of Kerala.
