Internship at IIHS Library (Chennai)

These internships will involve assisting library operations and services, mainly user and research services, instruction and outreach, acquisition and technical processing of learning resources being acquired for the library. Coordinating with the library team, the interns require a working knowledge of Machine Readable Cataloging (MARC) standard, Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) and exposure to open source or proprietary library automation systems, preferably Koha Library Management System, though not mandatory. A degree in any relevant stream will be desirable.


There is one internship position in Chennai. The selected intern will be required to travel to Bengaluru for two weeks to train with the IIHS Library team at the Bengaluru city campus.

a) The Ph.D. degree of the candidate has been awarded in regular mode only;
b) The Ph.D. thesis has been evaluated by at least two examiners;
c) An open Ph.D. viva voce of the candidate has been conducted;
d) The candidate has published two research papers from his/her Ph.D. work, out of which at least one is in a refereed journal; and
e) The candidate has presented at least two papers, based on his/her Ph.D. work in  conferences/ seminars, sponsored/ funded/ supported by the UGC/ CSIR/ ICSSR or any similar agency.

(ii) A consistently good academic record, with knowledge of computerization of a library. Good academic record means that the candidate should have atleast 50% marks separately in any two degrees or 55% average of any two degrees below graduation level (10th, 10+2, Bachelor degree).
(iii) Besides fulfilling the above qualification, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC like SLET/SET or who are or have been awarded a Ph.D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016 and their amendments from time to time.
(iv) Knowledge of Hindi/Sanskrit upto Matric/10th Standard.
